On the 17th of October 2025, Autism Awareness Ibadan conducted a comprehensive teacher-training session at Mahnatez International School, Ibadan, focusing on effectively supporting children on the Autism Spectrum.
The training was organized by Adiele Ijeoma, Founder of Autism Awareness Ibadan, and delivered by three speakers: Olusegun Iyejare, Developmental Psychologist and Mental Health Counselor, Ifeoluwa Olamileye, a Speech Therapist and a university lecturer who works with children on the spectrum and with NDDs in general.
The session centered on demystifying common misconceptions about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), recognizing early signs, building supportive classroom approaches, and equipping teachers with practical skills for inclusive education. Facilitators emphasized evidence-based strategies that help teachers manage sensory needs, communication differences, and behavior support within a mixed classroom environment.
During the interactive segment, teachers raised questions about balancing autistic children’s tantrums with maintaining decorum in a mainstream class setting. The speakers provided clear guidance on understanding emotional triggers, preventative strategies, crisis de-escalation, and how structured routines can reduce classroom disruptions.
The school principal expressed deep appreciation for the initiative and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Autism Awareness Ibadan to enhance support for neurodiverse learners.
